He claims distress that so few black businesses succeed in Barbados.. What did his government do, and why did he not air his mouth then? Waste haulers – punitive tax, threatened with closure, persecuted by government agencies and intimidated by state force. Now he moans, not a word or action then. Construction firms – run out of business because over 90% of government’s construction contracts given to one large non-black firm. Small contractors bankrupt, thousands unemployed. He as Minister of Commerce approved lower cement duties for the same non-black company, but nada for any manufacturers, fishermen, I.T. Yet he moans. Hotels – still unable to acquire duty free on their inputs, construction, refurbishment or food, as enjoyed in generous measure by Sandals. Still he moans. Farmers, hotels, manufacturers – raised water rates by 60% and doubled electricity costs driving many smaller businesses out of business and making tourism uncompetitive. How can he moan? Professionals have had their fees and taxes increased, and threatened with an unconstitutional move to block their trade. He has not and did not unpick his teeth. Today he moans.
He has not functioned properly as a Minister, he has brought no measurable meaningful value to Barbadians and he should transition permanently to Dancing with the Stars, for this is the most value his mouthings and his dandy dance moves provide, entertainment. Running your mouth will not help small businesses. Use your Ministerial position to at least do some Ministerial work to serve the very group for whom you moan. You have more power than anyone at this time to transform their fortunes. Do some work.
